Remanufacture & return
Our remanufacturing system explained

This is a process where the steering component from a vehicle is sent to us to be remanufactured and then is returned when completed for reinstallation on the vehicle.

The process is estimated to take 2 to 3 days from the time we receive the component in our facility, to the time it is ready for return. When we have the vehicles details and the nature of the fault, we can give you a more accurate time frame.

Who uses our remanufacture and return service?

1. Customers with rare vehicles or when the replacement component they require is unavailable.

2. Customers whose steering component is programmed specifically to their vehicle. In this situation, the only cost-effective solution is to remanufacture your component.

3. Customers who want to keep the original steering component on their vehicle. Remanufacturing your component is the only solution.

4. Customers with left-hand drive vehicles

5. Motorsport enthusiasts who have specialist steering systems or require modifications to their components.

6. Owners of Classic cars.

Preparing a component to be sent for remanufacture

When the component is off the vehicle, remove all ancillary parts, for example:

  1. Steering racks – track rod ends, heat shields, steering coupling and any detachable mounting brackets.
  2. Steering pumps – plastic covers and mounting brackets.
  3. Steering columns – steering coupling and mounting brackets.

If the column has an ignition barrel, include the ignition key — we cannot test the column or release the steering lock without it.

We must also have the electronic control unit (ECU). It is sometimes fitted remotely and connected by a lead; without the ECU we cannot test the column.

For keyless-ignition vehicles, remove the steering-lock module/immobiliser from the column before shipping. These modules are often damaged in transit, so they must be removed prior to shipment.

Shipping the component

If the component is being sent to us in a parcel, it must be securely packaged. Particular attention should be shown to the plastic plugs, ECU and the motor. We suggest these are protected with bubble wrap.

Please include a note showing your details and contact information; the vehicle details including the registration number, details about the fault/problem and any fault/error codes you may have.

Step 1

On arrival at our facility

The component is tagged, logged and visually assessed. Any issues found will be reported to you immediately.

Step 2

The component is tested

We evaluate the component and gather any fault/error codes present. Our findings are compared with the information you have supplied. This is to confirm it is the component that is at fault and that it is suitable for remanufacture.

Step 3

Cleaning

The component is sealed and all plastic parts are masked for protection. Our specialist cleaning process removes dirt and debris and, at the same time, prepares the surface for our paint finish.

Step 4

Disassembly

The component is completely disassembled, right down to individual mechanical and electronic parts. Every element is then deep-cleaned using specialist machinery to remove grease and debris without damaging the structure.

Step 5

Mechanical assessment and component replacement

All internal components are examined and any found to be outside our stringent tolerances are discarded and replaced with original equipment (OE) specification parts. All seals, bearings, bushes and belts are replaced.

Step 6

Electronics and motor remanufacture

The ECU and motor have all high-load components replaced as standard. This includes individual tests on circuits and circuit repairs. The programming is checked and updated with the latest software, if necessary.

Step 7

Reassembly and sealing

The component is reassembled with new seals, O-rings and hardware. We take particular care to align and torque everything to manufacturer settings to ensure long-term reliability.

Step 8

Testing and quality assurance

Every remanufactured component undergoes advanced mechanical and electronic testing. We simulate real-world steering loads, cornering forces and temperature extremes, pushing the component well beyond typical driving conditions to ensure durability and performance.

Step 9

Final inspection

The completed component is then rechecked against our database to confirm all dimensions are correct. A high-quality paint finish is applied. The component is labelled with its part number, batch number and date of remanufacture.

Step 10

Return

The component is securely packaged and shipped back to you for installation in your vehicle.
